Who:
My Name is Ernesto. I hate cancer.
What:
This is TweetOutCancer.com. This website is an adventure into using social networking and web 2.0 tools to do share experiences and do something good. Specifically, I am using this site to share my experience running the Marine Corp Marathon on 10/25/09 and to raise money for the American Cancer Society through their Charity Runner program. This site/blog/twitter will be continuously updated so keep a look out.
Why:
Cancer sucks. I want to help it suck less for the unfortunate people who are affected by it, in whatever form it takes. To do this I chose to enroll in the Charity Runner program for the American Cancer Society. The ACS mission statement is as follows:
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
The ACS operates predominately on donations and funding from GOOD people and GOOD organizations. I want to help they continue their mission. To do that I chose to raise money by running the Marine Corp Marathon. Because I love technology, the freedom, creativity, and opportunity that social networking and Web 2.0 provides I chose to forgo trying to run a PR and just go out, have fun, and share my experience with you.
Where:
The Marine Corp Marathon is being held in the Washington, DC Metro area (to see the course click here).
How:
I will be using my iPhone and the Tweetie 2 app to do live updates throughout the weekend.Oh, you meant how can you help? Well that’s easy!
